For all of you that don't know me I'm Jerry Willis, Class of 84'. There has been talk through the years about starting a Stamps Yellow Jacket Alumni Reunion. Even though a lot of great ideas have been tossed around, none have got off the ground.
I believe it's important to have an alumni reunion because the Public Education Reorganization Act, which is the current consolidation policy that mandates operational changes for all districts with fewer than 350 students, closed a number of small rural schools across the state. Some may agree or disagree with that law, but the fact remains that it threatened the pride and history of former students who were educated in these schools. I've served in the military, graduated from college, lived in a lot of places, met a lot of people along the way, but I will never forget where my journey started and who it started with!
We need to form a committee as soon a possible. There needs to be a chairman, co-chairman, secretary, and treasurer. I think a member from each class should set on the committee but give me some feedback. Seats can be held for 2 or 4 years and all this will outlined in a reunion charter. There seems to be a lot of interest so anyone wishing to hold office should go ahead and throw their hat in the ring now. Let's make September 1st the deadline for entering and vote on September 15th. I know it's hard to believe, but not everyone is online so make all your classmates aware. I will create a web page as soon as offices are held. In the meantime, post all your comments on this group page. Let's get this plane off the ground!
